Privacy Policy
|
CITGO Petroleum Corporation's policy is to respect and protect the privacy of our users. This policy statement tells you how we collect information from you, and how we use it. Using the Internet should be a fun experience, and we want to help you make it so.
Please note that CITGO's sites allow you to link to a wide variety of other sites. We do not control how these other sites gather and use information about their users. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of all sites you link to from our sites.
|
What information does CITGO collect? How do we use it?
- When you order, we need to know your name, e-mail address, mailing address, credit card number and the card's expiration date. This allows us to process and fulfill your order and to notify you of your order status.
- When you enter a contest or other promotional feature, we may ask for your name, address, and e-mail address so we can administer the contest and notify winners. We may also ask you optional questions. These questions are not used to identify you personally, but are used in the aggregate to help us better understand our users and improve our products, programs or services.
As part of our registrations, memberships and shopping processes, we give you the opportunity to decline to receive e-mails from CITGO. In addition, if you initially choose to receive our mailings, but then later change your mind, we provide instructions with our e-mails on how to unsubscribe to our e-mail program.
|
What about "cookies"?
"Cookies" are small text files that are stored on your computer. Web site programs, such as an online ordering system, create these text files to record information about your preferences. Our online ordering system, for example, needs to create these text files to record the items you add to your shopping cart. Most cookies expire after a certain time period. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to prevent that.
|
Will CITGO disclose the information it collects to outside parties?
No. CITGO will not disclose your personal information to third parties without your consent.
CITGO may share aggregate information about our users with business partners, sponsors and other third parties. For example, we may say CITGO's audience is x percent females and y percent males. This data is used to customize CITGO content and promotions to deliver a better experience for our users. CITGO may disclose user information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) CITGO's rights or property, other CITGO Web site users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. CITGO may disclose user information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.
|
How does CITGO protect customer information?
Safe technology: Our secure server software (SSL) is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your financial information, including credit card information, so it can't be read as the information travels over the Internet. In order for SSL security to work, you must use an SSL-enabled browser. For more information about SSL, see Netscape's web site.
|
What if I don't want to use my credit card?
No problem. Just use our phone or fax ordering options. Check the Help Desk in the CITGOGEAR store for details. Remember that under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges.

Policies for kids & teens (individuals under 18 years of age)
CITGO encourages parents and guardians to spend time online with their children and to participate in the activities offered on the sites. No information should be submitted to or posted at a CITGO Web site by guests under 18 years of age without the consent of their parent or guardian. Although guests under 18 years of age may be allowed to participate in some contests and promotions, if such a guest wins, notification and prizes are sent to the parents or guardians identified in the initial registration process. Publication of contest winners names, ages, or images for individuals under 18 require parental or guardian consent.
|
Your consent.
By using our Web site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by CITGO. We reserve the right to change our privacy policy as the needs of our customers and company evolve.
