1970	United States invades Cambodia.
1970	Lake Charles Refinery capacity increases to more than 260,000 barrels per day.
1970	Environmentalists hold first Earth Day.
1971	Gloria Steinem founds Ms. Magazine.
1972	Robert V. Sellers named Vice Chairman and Charles Waidelich named President and Chief Operating Officer of Cities Service.
1972	The Olympic Games become a terrorist target when the radical Palestinian group Black September attacks the Israeli quarters, killing 11 athletes.
1972	CITGO Quik Marts come into being, increasing sales volume from 30,000 gallons a month to more than 100,000 gallons per retail outlet.
1973	Arab Oil Embargo disrupts oil flow to U.S. and causes price spikes.
1973	Cities Service joins a joint venture to produce Syncrude from tar sands at Fort McMurray, Canada.
1974	In response to the OPEC oil embargo, Cities Service expands its super-deep drilling in the United States and expands its operations in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico and the Alaskan North Slope.
